I have hope that this won’t be the case. As Ebert relates on his blog, he got thousands of emails from people criticising his piece, yet not a single email from a creationist congratulating him for it. Two possibilities: 1) Creationists got it and understood they were being mocked. 2) Creationists just don’t spend a lot of time reading the writings of artsy-fartsy Pulitzer Prize-winning film critics in the first place.

I understand the point but are you seeing mine? I am merely saying Ebert has set himself up for being quote-mined. In 20 years, there will be creationists STILL saying that he believed in creationism.

It really is hard to know what’s satire and what’s not when people believe consistently believe stupid shit. You really can’t tell the difference – and that should be an indicator to all of us that we’re in trouble. Unless you’re in the know, how can you tell the difference between the Landover Baptist Church website and the Westboro Baptist Church website?
